Tortilis Camp can be found in the Kitirua conservancy, located at the border of the Amboseli National Park. It was established by Stephano Cheli in 1993 and was the first “eco-lodge” in Kenya. The Elewana Collections owns and operates this camp. It takes a 45-minute flight to reach Amboseli airstrip and then a 25-minute transfer to this 100% solar-powered camp. The camp has been training the local communities in guiding, chefs, waiters, and bar attendants, with 60% of the staff being from the local community.
At Tortilis Camp, guests can unwind in the evenings or afternoons after their game drives in the spacious and comfortable sitting room. The bar offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including wine, beer, and spirits. The well-furnished dining area provides a reliable and comfortable space for dining experiences, with both international and local cuisine made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can enjoy a full English breakfast and a 4-course dinner. Special dietary requirements and outdoor experiences in the savannah can be arranged with the manager.
Tortilis Camp offers a choice of 17 tents, including 16 safari tents, one family tent, and one private house. The family tent and private house, both with three bedrooms, are located separately from the main camp and share access to a swimming pool. These accommodations feature a large private verandah, a double ensuite bedroom, a twin room, and stunning views of Mt Kilimanjaro. All tents are covered with a makuti roof. The main bedroom in each tent has either a twin or double bed, an ensuite bathroom, and a spacious verandah that can accommodate an extra bed for a child under 16.
